THE FOCUS OF OUR LIVESTOCK OPERATION

Cattle is king in Texas! Well at HF4 Ranch sheep and goats thrive. The focus of livestock operation is a delicate balance of cattle, sheep and goats. This allow for the most efficient utilization of the forage available while maintaining the integrity of the land and its resources.

Finewool sheep have always been a passion of ours at HF4 Ranch. We truly believe these dual purpose animals produce the best fiber and best meat in the world. We have recently focused on improving the finewool sheep herd. This includes integrating the use of technology and better practices to help capture a full ranch of data on our sheep.

TRANSITIONING WITH TECHNOLOGY

Once we have collected the data we use the National Sheep Improvement Program (NSIP) to generate Estimated Breeding Values (EBV's). We can use this to help make more informed decisions and advance the quality of our sheep herd. Our focus is to increase our number of lambs born while maintaining a fast growing lamb that shears a superior fleece. Wool may not be the bread winner of the ranch but it is certaininly the most sustainable and superior fiber on the planet. Which is why we work hard to produce a superior wool product.
